Introduction: The Fusion of Two Mystical Arts

A few summers ago, I had foot surgery and was unable to walk for at least six weeks. During that time, I wanted to deepen my meditation practice, but there’s only so much meditating one can do in a day! So, I signed up for an online Reiki course, hoping to enhance my energy work and self-healing.

As I practiced Reiki and meditation, I started searching YouTube for videos that would help me focus for twenty to thirty minutes at a time. That’s when tarot channels started appearing in my recommendations. It was my first “real” exposure to tarot readings—especially those geared toward specific astrological signs.

Next, astrology channels started popping up, and before I knew it, I was taking a deep dive into Hellenistic astrology. Something about it resonated deeply with me. I wanted to learn everything I could, but I wondered, “How do astrology and tarot work together?” Every once in a while, an astrologer would briefly mention a connection, but no one ever explained it in depth.

Then, one of my favorite astrology YouTube channels offered a certification course in Astrological Tarot. I signed up right away. I’m so glad I did! Tarot gave me a visual way to see astrology in action. Meditating on a tarot card in relation to an astrological aspect unlocked deeper layers of meaning. This blend of two mystical arts transformed how I practiced both.

🔮 Have you ever felt drawn to both astrology and tarot but weren’t sure how they connect?

Astro-Tarot is the bridge between these two symbolic systems. It offers a powerful way to gain insight, guidance, and self-awareness. By learning how tarot and astrology complement each other, we can enrich our understanding of both.

In today’s newsletter, I want to introduce you to the core principles of Astro-Tarot and how it can enhance your intuitive understanding.

Why Astrology and Tarot Work So Well Together

Astrology is a cosmic map that reflects our soul’s journey, personality, and the timing of events in our lives.

🔮 Tarot is a symbolic tool that taps into the subconscious, revealing hidden truths and present-moment energies.

🌀 Together, they form a dynamic system: Astrology provides the structure—a framework based on celestial cycles—while tarot adds fluidity, intuition, and depth.

  • Have you ever pulled a tarot card that seemed to align perfectly with an astrological transit you were going through?

  • Have you felt like a specific zodiac season had a “tarot card energy” to it?

Astro-Tarot helps us bridge these connections in a way that’s both mystical and practical.

The Building Blocks of Astro-Tarot

1. Astrological Signs & Tarot Archetypes

Each zodiac sign corresponds to a Major Arcana tarot card. These pairings create an energetic signature that blends astrological themes with tarot symbolism.

  • Aries = The Emperor (Leadership, initiation, taking charge)

  • Pisces = The Moon (Intuition, mystery, dreams, and illusions)

Reflection: What tarot card resonates most with your Sun sign? How does it reflect your personality? (If you’re not sure, don’t worry! I intend to share these connections with you as my substack unfolds. Be sure to subscribe!)

2. Planets & Tarot’s Hidden Influences

Each planet has a tarot counterpart, which can deepen how we understand planetary transits and natal chart placements.

  • The Sun = The Sun Card (Vitality, self-expression, authenticity)

  • Mars = The Tower (Conflict, destruction, necessary upheaval)

  • Venus = The Empress (Love, abundance, creativity, sensuality)

Example: If Mars (The Tower) is transiting your natal Venus (The Empress), this could symbolize an intense transformation in your relationships or creative pursuits.

🔮 Reflective Question: How does Mars energy (The Tower) influence conflict and change in a tarot reading?

3. Houses & Tarot Spreads

The 12 astrological houses represent different areas of life, and they can guide how we structure tarot spreads.

  • The 10th House (Career, public reputation) can inspire a tarot spread about career growth.

  • The 7th House (Relationships, partnerships) can shape a reading about love and connections.

🌙 Try this: Choose an astrological house in your birth chart (see above). Pull three tarot cards - what theme emerges?

How Astro-Tarot Deepens Intuition & Self-Discovery

One of the most powerful aspects of Astro-Tarot is how it blends logic with intuition. Astrology is often seen as structured and mathematical, while tarot is fluid and intuitive. But together, they help us understand the interplay between cosmic patterns and personal insight.

For example:

🌸 If Venus is in Pisces, this blends The Empress (Venus’s abundance and love) with The Moon (Pisces’s mystery and intuition). This could create an energy of deep romantic longing, creativity, and dreamlike inspiration—but also confusion or illusion in relationships.

Reflection: Have you ever noticed a tarot reading aligning with an astrological transit in your life?

Simple Ways to Start Practicing Astro-Tarot

Ready to explore Astro-Tarot for yourself? Here are three simple ways to start:

🃏 1. Pull a tarot card based on planetary transits.

  • Example: During a New Moon, pull a card to explore its personal meaning for you.

  • Example: When Mercury goes retrograde, pull a card to see what message it has for your communication and mindset.

💫 2. Use your birth chart to create a personalized tarot spread.

  • Example: Pull a card for your rising sign (1st House) to explore personal identity.

  • Example: Pull a card for your Midheaven (10th House) to examine career themes.

📖 3. Journal your insights.

  • Write about how the symbols of astrology and tarot interact in your daily life.

  • Keep track of transits and corresponding tarot readings—what patterns emerge?
