The Cosmic Link Between Tarot and Astrology

Did you know that each zodiac sign has a corresponding Major Arcana card? When I first discovered this, it changed the way I looked at both astrology and tarot. Suddenly, astrology became visual, and tarot became cosmic. Each card carries the essence of its zodiac sign, creating a powerful way to blend these two mystical languages.

Astro-Tarot is all about using these connections to unlock a deeper level of self-awareness. Whether pulling cards for guidance or studying your birth chart, knowing your sign’s tarot archetype can reveal hidden layers of meaning.

But before we get into all twelve signs, I want to share a little about my own Sun, Moon, and Rising signs and how their corresponding tarot cards show up in my life.

✨ Understanding myself through Astro-Tarot✨

Studying Astro-Tarot has been a profound journey of self-acceptance and discovery. As a double Gemini (both my Sun and Moon are in Gemini) with a Cancer rising, I’ve spent much of my life hearing jokes about Geminis being fickle or constantly changing their minds. Being a double Gemini, I sometimes felt a little ashamed—was I really just scattered energy, bouncing from one thing to the next?

Then, I learned that Gemini is represented by The Lovers card. That changed everything!

I took time to meditate on the imagery of the card, and the first thing that stood out to me was the naked couple—a powerful symbol of vulnerability and authentic self-expression. I realized that my Gemini nature isn’t about being inconsistent; it’s about my deep need for connection, conversation, and learning through dialogue. The Lovers card radiates an energy of trust, love, and harmony—qualities I value deeply in my relationships and how I move through the world. Seeing myself through The Lovers helped me embrace my Gemini energy rather than feel I had to suppress it.

Then, there’s my Cancer rising, represented by The Chariot. At first, this connection felt a little confusing. Cancer is known as the homebody of the zodiac, deeply emotional and protective, while The Chariot appears so driven, disciplined, and focused on victory. How does this ambitious energy align with the cautious, shell-dwelling crab?

But when I looked closer, I noticed all the lunar symbols woven into The Chariot’s design—of course, Cancer is ruled by the Moon! And suddenly, it made sense.

The Chariot isn’t just about external success—it’s about inner mastery. Cancer’s deep intuition and emotional intelligence can be a powerful guiding force, but only if I trust myself enough to step out of my shell and take the reins. The lesson of The Chariot is that progress comes from within—I have the vehicle (the Chariot), but I have to decide where I’m going.

The real question for me is always: What is driving me?

Now, let’s explore how each zodiac sign connects with the Major Arcana!

The Zodiac Signs and Their Major Arcana Pairings

♈ Aries – The Emperor

Aries, ruled by fiery and assertive Mars, is all about action, leadership, and courage. The Emperor embodies this energy perfectly—he’s the ruler, the strategist, the one who builds and protects his domain.

Reflection: Where in your life do you need to take charge? Are you stepping into your personal power or hesitating to lead?

♉ Taurus – The Hierophant

Taurus, ruled by Venus, values stability, tradition, and deep wisdom. The Hierophant represents spiritual guidance, sacred knowledge, and the structures that ground us.

Ask Yourself: What traditions or belief systems bring you a sense of security? Are they still serving you?

♊ Gemini – The Lovers

Mercury rules Gemini, which thrives on communication, connection, and choices. The Lovers represents duality, relationships, and major life decisions that require both the heart and mind.

Contemplate: What choices in your life require deeper reflection? How do you integrate opposing aspects of yourself?

♋ Cancer – The Chariot

Cancer may be known for its sensitivity, but it’s also incredibly determined. The Chariot represents emotional control, perseverance, and the drive to move forward, even when the waters are rough.

Personal Insight: How do your emotions influence your ability to take action? Are you letting feelings guide you or hold you back?

♌ Leo – Strength

Leo, ruled by the Sun, embodies courage, confidence, and self-expression. Strength reminds us that true power is not forceful—it’s compassionate and patient and comes from within.

Challenge: How can you cultivate inner strength without relying on external validation?

Meditate On: Where in your life do you need to pause and listen to your own wisdom?

Self-Inquiry: Are you seeing a situation objectively, or is something clouding your judgment?

♏ Scorpio – Death

Reflect: What outdated beliefs, relationships, or patterns are you ready to release?

Ask Yourself: Are you embracing moderation, or are you swinging between extremes?

♑ Capricorn – The Devil

Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is ambitious, disciplined, and structured—but it can also struggle with material attachments. The Devil represents self-imposed limitations, temptations, and the need to break free.

Consider: Are you in control of your desires, or are they controlling you?

♒ Aquarius – The Star

Aquarius, ruled by Uranus and Saturn, is visionary, rebellious, and future-oriented. The Star is a card of hope, inspiration, and divine guidance—an invitation to share your unique light with the world.

Ponder: How can you bring your visions into reality and inspire those around you?

♓ Pisces – The Moon

Pisces, ruled by Neptune, exists in the realm of intuition, dreams, and illusion. The Moon represents mystery, subconscious messages, and navigating the unknown.

Explore: What intuitive messages have been surfacing for you lately? Are you listening?

Why These Connections Matter in Readings

Understanding the link between tarot and astrology isn’t just theoretical—it adds a whole new layer to your readings. When you see a Major Arcana card show up in a spread, you can think about:

  • What zodiac season are we in?

  • Are there any major planetary transits related to this card?

  • How does this card relate to my own Sun, Moon, or Rising sign?

Example: If the Sun is transiting Aquarius, it brings in Star card energy, a time of hope, inspiration, and divine guidance.

Try This: Pull a tarot card alongside your Sun, Moon, and Rising sign cards and see what story emerges.
